I grew up with a desire to explore. From a young age my parents took every opportunity to show myself and my siblings the world around us! From two week long road-trips out west where we would camp in view of amazing sights to the boundary waters in Canada where I paddled with my dad in a canoe for a week. The first time we went up to Canada I had just turned seven. I am not sure what my dad thought was going to happen putting seven year old ADHD me in the front of the canoe with a paddle, pocket knife and weeklong supply of lemon-heads, but I genuinely think there were several points throughout that trip he reconsidered his decisions. From cutting myself with said pocket knife to comparing the water on the left side of the canoe to the water on the right by moving my entire body from side to side as I peer over the edge (In a canoe on an open deep lake with everything we had to survive for a week onboard). My parents wanted to make sure that me and both of my siblings visited all of the lower 48 states. We took numerous road-trips and other such adventures seeing a ton more of the USA than most people ever will. Fast forwarding a bit, I am a Junior in High School and my dad sits us down and tells us that he was selling his business (a soil testing laboratory) and getting a travel franchise through Expedia Cruises. That was a shock to me. It was hard to picture the guy that spent the last 17 years of my life in dirty jeans, a white t-shirt and an Illini hat (who's primary day job consisted mostly of playing with dirt), trading all of that in for khakis, a polo, and an office. Now when my dad sets his mind on something there isn't a whole lot that will stop him so I knew he would be diving into this at full speed. I was never sure just how serious he took his new business until I went with him on my first cruise. It was great! I skipped my Senior Class trip to go spend 7 days in the Caribbean. Absolute win! We went on some excursions like climbing Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica and got to experience George Town on Grand Cayman. Now the final destination on this cruise was Cozumel Mexico. This was the port that I found out first hand how much my dad cared about the experiences he could give his guests. We sailed into the northern cruise port, from the ship you can see the crystal blue water, the sand, the waves, all the beautiful buildings and it was exciting! We checked out the port I was looking through the shops while my dad trailed behind me trying to build a mental map of the area. After his map was done for that port he decided we should go check out the other one! That way he could give accurate descriptions and advice to future travelers that happen to sail into the southern cruise terminal. I was on board and thought it would be cool to see it as well! I figured that it was nearby as I just walked past 50 or so shops and attractions. So we set off walking. 2.2 miles and about 75 comments to my dad about how we should have rented one of those cool convertible dune buggies later we arrived at the southern terminal and my dad made his mental map and we turned around to hike back another 2.2 miles to the ship. (Since this trip my dad has exclusively sailed into the southern terminal. He has never set foot back in the northern terminal we initially arrived at). Even exploring places he has never seen for himself his goal is to absorb as much info as he can to pass it along to the travelers he helps. This passion and attention to detail is something I appreciate and share. My background is in sales and client interaction. I am still learning the ins and outs of the travel industry but will always default to focusing on client relations!
